ROC has existed 100 years! On December 31 2010, Magistrate Lee and his wife led the management team of the County Government in the parking lot of Cing-Jing Farm Visitors Center to welcome the arrival of 2011. Together with 20 thousand visitors, they did the final countdown of the last minute of 2010. When 2011 began, many sky lanterns and balloons in heart shapes rose to the sky. Cing-Jing Farm area was therefore brightened. Though the temperature was only 6 degree Celsius, people cheered passionately and did not feel cold. The spirit of the first day of the New Year was immediately at a high point.
This New Years Eve celebration was since 2006 organized by the County Government and companies in the Cing-Jing area. Every year this event attracts thousands of people. The themes of the 2010 Nantou Cing-Jing New Years Eve Party are 'True Feelings 99 (the mandarin pronunciation of 99 is same as long lasting). Going 100' and 'Meet, Happiness, Cing-Jing'. The party started at 19:15 and lasted till the early morning of 1 January. There were many interesting programs which really pleased the audience greatly. When it was closer to midnight, more people gathered in the parking lot. Even the retaining walls and steps were full of people.
Magistrate Lee and his wife got on the stage at 21:30 with Vice Magistrate Chi-Chin Chen, County Secretary Chen-Shen Chen and all the department heads. Magistrate Lee introduced them one by one to the people. They threw many red envelopes to the crowd. Those who grabbed the red envelopes were of course extremely excited.
Magistrate Lee welcomed people coming to Cing-Jing to celebrate New Year's Eve. Two thousand red envelopes which could be used in exchange for gifts were prepared. The flag hoisting ceremony in Jhong Hsin New Village would be held on 1 January. The National Flag is the biggest in Taiwan. It is about 40 meters long. He urged people to go there to join the ceremony to celebrate 100 years of ROC.
Magistrate Lee and his wife then went to the second parking lot to light the sky lanterns. They put down the first lighted candle in front of the heart shaped wall formed by many candles. People put down more candles which formed the words ROC 100. It was a magnificent view. Many people took photos in front of the sea of romantic candles to keep this unforgettable memory.
At 23:40 the whole County Government team went on the stage for the final countdown. Everyone had a balloon in his or her hands. The balloons were let go at the last second of 2010. Five sky lanterns with the characters Nan Tou, Cing-Jing and 100 flew into the sky. The beautiful fireworks started at the same time. They brightened the night of Cing-Jing. The cheering sound from the visitors at that moment was the highlight of the evening.
