The 2016 Re-evaluation on Nantou CM Premium Tea competition was held at Lugu Township Farmers’ Association on August 21. CM Lin-Ming Chen announced the results of the rating publicly. Lai Shih-Yung from the refreshing fragrance group and Chen Chih-Hsien from the ripe scent group were awarded with the Gold Medal Award, respectively. CM Lin tasted the awarded tea on site, and applauded the good taste and fragrance of the awarded tea that left a smooth after taste. Lin also invited people to go to the World Tea Expo at Jhongsing New Village on October 8 to select and purchase the CM Premium Tea.
The groups that joined the competition for the CM Premium Tea can be classified into two groups based on heat control; one is called the Chinxing Oolong Tea-Ripe Scent Group and the other is called the Chinxing Oolong Tea-refreshing fragrance group. There were 191 submissions of tea samples found in the refreshing fragrance group. From that select pool, 105 finalists were invited to the competition, and the rejection rate was 46%. There were 252 submissions of tea samples found in the ripe scent group. From that select pool, 127 finalists were invited to the competition, and the rejection rate was 49%. With a high rejection rate, it shows that the competition is keen to pick the highest quality tea. Among them, the reviewers chose from the refreshing fragrance group. One awardee would receive the Gold Medal Award, 6 awardees would receive the First Prize, and 12 awardees would receive the Gold Medal. The reviewers chose from the ripe scent group. One awardee would receive Gold Medal Award, 9 awardees would receive the First Prize and 17 awardees would receive the Gold Medal.
As for the qualifications of this year’s competition, the applicant needs to log in with a QR code on a Taiwan agriculture website to submit a request for acquiring production traceability. Although the number of submissions decreased a little bit, the quality assurance of the CM Premium Tea increased. Meanwhile, to keep a close eye on the tea product and confirm that the product is free from pesticides, the county government delivered the tea to the Dongding Workstation at the Tea Research and Extension Station on the delivery day of August 16. It implements measures on building up the security image for CM Premium Tea and Food products.
The awardee list of the “CM Premium Tea” includes the awardee Lai Shih-Yung who received the Gold Medal Award from the refreshing fragrance group, and the First Prize went to Chien Po-Hsiang, Liu Chih-Hsiu, Lien Wei-Min, Lai Shih-Yung, Yeh Tsui-E, and Li Shao-Fu. As for the ripe scent group, the awardee Chen Chih-Hsien received the Gold Medal Award. the First Prize went to Lin Wei-Hsin, Chang Ching-Sung, Tang Yuan-Chang, Huang Chun-Ching, Chen Hung-An, Lien Wei-Min, Chang Chiung-Man, and Yeh Chen-Wei. The awarding for the CM Premium was held at the “2016 World Tea Expo in Nantou County” on October 8, and that’s the exhibition time. The tea products will be displayed for sale for 3 days from October 8 to October 10 at the exhibition hall.
