Since mid-April, the tung flowers growing inside Nantou County have been in full bloom over the mountains and fields. The Nantou government held the “2012 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival” opening ceremony at New Era Art Resort & SPA on April 16th. Tung flowers inside the resort were spread on the ground here and there, attracting so many people and photography-lovers to ‘shoot’ the beautiful scene there and then. Meanwhile, magistrate Li Zhao-Ching, Puli township head Zhou Yi-Xiong and Guosing township head Lin Fu-Feng clapped together to welcome guests, inviting nationals to appreciate the beauty of the Hakka cultures in Nantou.

  Each year, Nantou holds several floral activities, such as tung and cherry blossom festivals, plum blossom appreciation, and the floral carnival, etc. Among them, the tung blossom festival, incorporating unique Hakka cultural meanings, are deeply loved by people, said magistrate Li. He also indicated, as Nantou commits itself to developing tourism, cultures give a more profound meaning and vitality to tourism development. Over the years, the county government gives high regard to cultural activities. Magistrate Li said he himself is also Hakka. Given the fact that Hakka emphasizes diligent and thrifty spirits, the county government wants to facilitate a much more harmonious society via spreading their spirits.

  Head Zhou and Lin expressed their thanks to magistrate Li for contributing himself to promote tourism and market agricultural products at the inauguration. Lin pointed out, tung flowers represent Hakka’s toughness. Wherever tung seeds fall, tung trees grow.

  “2012 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival~ Discover New Nantou Together” series started from April 16th -21st, Hakka villages in six townships including Puli, Kuohsing, Nantou, Chungliao, Yuchi, Shueili, famous for their robust vigor and hospitality, bring atmosphere to its climax for the “2012 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival”. There was a spring-welcoming drum & dance show performed by Sinan Elementary School and a Hakka tung dance performed by the Puli Hakka Culture Development Association and Wu-Sheng Dance Company (both are temporary translations) during the opening ceremony, there was also a sketch competition and a concert with relative rich contents, and so on.
