To develop Taiwan as the sports island, the Chungtan Highway Cycling Race of 2012 ‘rite of passage with bicycles’ commenced on the Chungtan Highway in Puli on May 26th . Magistrate Chao-Chin Li attended the event and fired a shot to encourage the cyclers, and wished them to be persistent so that they might stimulate life’s morale through the rite of passage with their bicycles. He also said that Nantou is suitable for travelling by bicycle. The best proof is the fact that Sun Moon Lake was awarded as one of the top ten most beautiful cycling tracks in the world.
  In order to encourage the sport of cycling and to provide high quality races, Nantou County government and council were the major organizers of the 2012 ‘rite of passage with bicycles’—Chungtan Highway Cycling Race which was commissioned by the Nantou Cycling Association. Around 500 cyclers registered and participated in the event. Magistrate Li and others fired the shots to commence the race in batches on the flood-control road in Liumian Li, Puli Township. The cyclers follow the route: Puli interchange (0km)Zhongzheng RdXi’an Rd Chung Tai Chan MonasteryZhongshan Rd section 4 (Sun Temple) provincial road #14BeishanGuoxingCaotun and continue to Pinlin (31.4km)GuoxingBeishanPuli (60.5km) until the sports ground of Chi Nan University in Taomi Li. The total length is 65 kilometers.
  Magistrate Li stated that the purpose of the ‘rite of passage with bicycles’—Chungtan Highway Cycling Race was for the cyclers to experience the process of growing up through cycling. The cyclers need to press hard on the pedals of their bicycles. And they can demonstrate their maturity by passing the tests of the burning sun and endurance which is very meaningful to them.
  Magistrate Li also stated that Nantou County is very suitable for bicycle lovers to come and enjoy themselves for recreational purposes. The cycling events organized by the county government in recent years had all been very successful. For instance, the Wulin Cycling Race, which challenges the high mountains, attracted many people from both the country and abroad. Sun Moon Lake was selected as one of the most beautiful cycling tracks in the whole world. This is the proof that the wonderful mountains, water and air of Nantou are all very attractive. Cycling in Nantou is pure enjoyment.
