The 2011 Industry, Commerce and Service Census will soon commence starting from April 15th to June 30th, 2012. Nantou County Magistrate Lee together with the Director of Accounting and Statistics Office Lin Min-Chu, and Director of the Department of Construction Tseng Ren-Long unveiled the plaque for Nantou County’s Office for Industry, Commerce and Service Census. Magistrate Li encourages census staff to strive for excellence in the forthcoming census.

Magistrate Li states that although Nantou County’s industrial and commercial industry is behind compared to other counties and cities, Nangang Industrial Park still managed to rise above 1.2 million companies in Taiwan by winning the National Award for Outstanding SMEs. In addition, factories in Nantou County also collaborated with Nantou County’s tourism and local industries by opening up for factory tours in an attempt to explore new markets as well as increase public exposure. Moreover, there are also internationalized corporations in Nantou County specializing in the production and exportation of various parts and products, an indication of Nantou County’s industrial and commercial competitive strength despite the few companies present.

Nantou County achieved outstanding performances in the past census and was awarded first place in the ‘2010 Forestry, Fishery and Husbandry Census’ Second Division, and Outstanding Performance in the ‘2010 Population and Housing Census’ Second Division. For this reason, Magistrate Li especially commended 230 census staff in their achievements and further encouraged the staff to strive for excellence in the forthcoming tasks.

The Industry, Commerce and Service Census aims to understand the economic activities of Taiwan’s industrial, commercial, and service industries as well as other related industries in the hope of grasping the status of the industry’s operation and development to serve as a reference for drafting policies on industrial developments, business developments and academic studies. As an important factor for policy implementation, historical census statistics are crucial in drafting major construction projects such as planning for industrial parks and transportation.

The Accounting and Statistics Office states that according to the regulations of the 2011 Industry, Commerce, and Service Census, profit-seeking companies and units, including registered or non-registered public and private companies, organizations, and non-corporate organizations, all companies that operate on a fixed location must cooperate in the forthcoming census.
