Land that was once barren is now green, thanks to support from the Shinyi Township’s Shuanglong Community its recreational, ecological, and tourist-friendly environment, excelled in the national communities environmental contest thus receiving Executive Yuan Environmental Protection Administration’s 16th Annual “National Environmental Protection Model Community.” They received a ‘grade A’, netting a prize of fifty thousand dollars as well as good spring omens for Nantou. Magistrate Lee commends the community’s hard work as it significantly benefits the local development of tourism.
County Environmental Protection Bureau states that Shinyi Township’s Shuanglong Community Development Association’s participation in ecological land preservation was verified by the bureau, after examining various sites to be exemplary, and was therefore nominated to participate for national selection. During the Environmental Protection Administration’s periodical and unannounced inspections, Shuanglong Community stood out from the other competitors and won the 16th Annual National Environmental Protection Model Community Grade A, a well suited award considering the efforts put in.
Shinyi Township’s Shuanglong Community Development Association utilized around 100 people from local clinics, station houses, village offices, and environmental volunteers to participate in cleaning, recycling, garbage sorting, and vegetation planting. They actively eliminated unsightly community’s places turning barren areas green, changing unused locations into stone-made flower beds, planting indigenous trees, grass, etc. and constructing two small parks with aboriginal flavors, which provides a quality resting area and lets visitors see the excellent tourist oriented atmosphere of the Shuanglong Community.
Also, the community fuses the local Bunun traditional culture, distinguished village characteristics and abundant natural resources to promote eco-tourism, cultivate community tour guides, as well as utilizing locally grown organic vegetables to introduce local foods and drinks. The Shuanglong Community uses its limited resources and a team full of creative ideas to generate a sustainable environment that emphasizes ecology, production, and living; earning the praise of judges from the Environmental Protection Administration, which allowed them to take the honor of being a Grade A community.
