County Magistrate Chao-ching Lee attended the 2008 National Tourism Summit held on March 9th at the Crystal Village resort to listen to advice about local tourism development. He first thanked all the travel agencies for actively bringing tour groups to Nantou, which helped develop the local economy. He stated that, with the hard work of county government staff members, who combined business and culture, they planned and executed many large scale tourism events that successfully attracted tourists and brought prosperity to the local area. County Magistrate Lee said that he plans to continue working with travel agencies to attract international tourists and expects to create a win-win situation for tourists, the local area, and travel agencies. County Magistrate Lee also said that after his inauguration, he led the county staff team to develop local tourism using creativity and limited resources. With the help of the city office and volunteers, they successfully held the Nantou Flower Festival, Nantou Train Festival, Tea and Health Festival, Nantou Grape Festival, and other large scale tourism and marketing events, which brought business to the local area. In the future, the government will cooperatively form policy measures with the tourism industry, targeting Japan, Korea, China, America, Singapore, Malaysia, and other areas as sources for international tourists. With the integration of both parties' interests and the use of business concepts, they hope to attract international tourists. In turn, this will help promote the sale of local high-quality agriculture products and the creation of local business opportunities. During the meeting, the tourism department of the county government gave a brief report about tourism strategies and sites. They explained the schedules and contents of the county's 2008 events in detail, so that travel agencies could package their tours in advance to attract more tourists. The representatives at the meeting expressed both their approval of the tourism environment and their enthusiasm to cooperate with the county government to promote tourism and local business. Travel agencies also gave many suggestions about elevating the county's tourism industry, food and dining, accommodation information, and events planning, which made the meeting bustle with noise and excitement.
