The 2010 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival with the theme of “Dance with Tung Blossom in the Winds of Spring; Let the Sound of Music Ring through Hakka villages” has opened at the New Era Art Resort in the town of Pu –Li, Nan – Tou County. Being the earliest celebratory event of a series of the Tung Blossom Festival activities, it lured in numerous visitors early in the morning to appreciate the Tung blossoms and performance of music and dance. The meadow of brightest green and stone statues of the New Era Art Resort were the perfect company for the Tung trees blooming loudly and the snowy white petals of Tung blossom spreading all over the park. All visitors were fascinated by the enchanting beauty of this scenery along with performances of Hakka dance and songs.
The Nan – Tou County has won over the financial support from the Council of Hakka Affairs of the Executive Yuan this year to host a series of events of the 2010 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival in its 6 towns including the town of Pu – Li, over which the opening ceremony has taken place, following subsequent events at 11th, 17th, 18th, 24th, and 25th of April at different locations of Nan – Tou County, including Hou – Tou - Tzou Recreational Park of the Guo - Sing Town, Shiao – Nan Garden of Yu – Chih Town, Fong – Tian Temple of the Nan – Tou Municipal City, Hakka Club House of the North Jhong - Liao Town, and the plaza of Ji – Shien Temple in Shin – Shing village of Shuei – Li Town. All events were unique with distinguishing features of the towns in which they took places.
The musical performance delivered by the drum ensemble of Shih – Nan Elementary School kicked start a series of interesting activities, and the dance performance that choreographed popular dance moves into Hakka folk songs “Admirable You” and “Dance! Tung Blossom, Dance!” became the highlight of the day with participation of all audience. The recitation of Hakka poetry, which is a must at the Tung Blossom Festival every year, was presented by students of Shuei – Wei Elementary School and members of the Pu - Li Hakka Association, reading aloud in perfectly – articulated Hakka language the poem and prose that praises the true Hakka value.
The Tung Blossom Festival hosted by the County of Nan - Tou this year went splendidly, with its opening ceremony starting early in the morning followed by performances of all genres happening all day. After speeches given by honorary guests, members of the Pu - Li Hakka Association delivered a theatrical performance about the stories of Hakka people’s harsh living earlier in Taiwan, followed by martial art and the “true” Hakka folk singing performance presented by ALL 24 students of Chung – Ling Elementary School. New dance numbers had been choreographed specifically for the Tung Blossom Festival by both Yen – Yen Dance Company and Wu – Sheng Dance Company, and their depiction on the beauty of Tung blossom with movement of grace and elegance had made it the most mesmerizing experience of the event.
