The Council of Agriculture Executive Bureau held the annual 2007 National Top Ten Classic Tea Competition and announced the results on June 7, 2007. Ninety-five tea farmers from all corners of Taiwan competed in this prestigious contest. Nantou County Zhushan tea farmer Tzeng Chun-Li, Mingjian Shiang tea farmer Lee Chin-Shih, and Lugu Shiang tea farmer Hsu Shun-Jing all won national honors for their exquisite tea farming.
According to the Council of Agriculture, all contestants must first qualify for their countys selection by following the rules of tea cultivation and processing management as well as being judged by both county and city tea officials. Thirteen out twenty-five contestants from the Nantou County made the first cut. These thirteen contestants then went on to the national level and endured a series of rigorous selections. The final round of judges made their choice based on the following characteristics: (liquid) color, aroma, and taste before selecting the top ten classic teas.
Eight out of the thirteen Nantou contestants made it to the finals. Only three received the top honors; they were tea farmers Tzeng Chun Li from Zhushan town, Ming Jian Shiang, Li Chin-Shih, and Lugu Shiang tea farmer Hsu Shun-Jing.
The high quality of Nantou Countys tea is a reflection of the hard working farmers, new technologies and help from the local agricultural organization. All of these efforts resulted in Nantou receiving the honor of being listed in the 2007 National Top Ten Classic Tea Competition winners. This great news spread quickly throughout Nantous tea community. |
