The Nantou County Government held the “Girls from Satoyama Fulfilling Their Dreams” picnic on the green for the 2022 Nantou Girls Day at Nantou City Party in Chung Hsing Village on the afternoon of 24th September to allow the public to appreciate the meaning and the spirit behind the establishment of the Taiwan Girls Day. Chen Cheng-Sheng, Deputy County Magistrate, both presented the Certificate of Gratitude to the female workforce who helped to organize the event, and taok the oath of the rise of women power together with Lin Chih-Chung, Director of the Social Welfare and Labor Department of Nantou County Government, Chu Te-Hua, President of The Nantou Young Men’s Christian Association. All present committed their effort to realize gender equality.
　　
The event was jointly organized by the Nantou and Caotun Women Service Centers, and was kicked off by the drum show performed by the youths supported by the family support center. After a performance consisting of the ukulele, guitar, drumming, dancing, and singing, the highlight of the show – a major bubble show - was held on stage. Our little friends enjoyed their bubble playing. There were a great variety of activities at the event which ranged from educational stands, DIY mug mat by the Women Workforce, Wish-making zone, and the stories of the success of girls in Nantou.

According to Deputy Magistrate Chen, traditional culture belittles women to the extent that women in the country are socially inferior to men with discrimination rampant in many walks of society. In 2013, the Central Government designated 11th October as Taiwan Girls Day. The County Government supports the Central Government’s policy of advocating gender equality in the long run and increasing the number of female employees and officers. Increasing cases of successful startups by women and women achieving success are on the rise, both pointing to a significant change from an unfair traditional culture. The County Government will continue to endeavor in its effort for achieving gender equality, and hopes that all may achieve their dreams.
