連至 Donating tablets to start students’ dreams. Legislator Hsu Shu-Hua launches a charity campaign with enterprises to donate tablets, August 23 完整照片 Schools have cancelled in-person classes due to the rise in Taiwan COIVD-19 cases in mid-May. Students rely on digital learning device greatly for self-learning at home. However, some disadvantaged students can only participate in class remotely by using their cellphone, and using inappropriate device for too long could hinder their learning efficiency and lead to negative impact on their eyesight. To help students have a healthy remote learning environment, Legislator Hsu Shu-Hua launches a charity campaign “Donating Tablets for a Cradle of Dreams” to donate tablets for learning. Chairman Yang Chien-Yi of San-Yi Development Co., Ltd., Huang-Qiong-Ling, a local enterprise in Mingjian Township, Chairman Cheng Chin-Wen of Yang Chung Enterprise Co., Ltd., Ms. Wang Yu-Chuan and others are invited to participate in the campaign. Witnessed by County Magistrate Lin Ming-Chen, 522 tablets are donated to students from disadvantaged family in Nantou County. County council members, including Tang Hsiao-Fen, Yu Hao and Hung Hao-Yuan, are also present to show their appreciation for the benevolence to care for the eyes of students, who are still under development.

County Magistrate Lin Ming-Chen says some students don’t have appropriate device for remote learning due to economic reasons in their family. Tablets are essential to maintain learning quality and healthy vision. Lin appreciates Legislator Hsu leading the communities to contribute to public welfare, care for students’ quality of education, and do one’s part in protecting Nantou students’ eyesight.

Legislator Hsu Shu-Hua says the idea of launching the donation campaign “Donating Tablets for a Cradle of Dreams” was brought up as many parents said that their children have to use cellphone or share a tablet with their brothers or sisters for remote classes during the epidemic. The original goal was to donate 500 tablets; however, with enthusiastic support from enterprises, a total of 522 tablets were donated. Hsu appreciates kind-hearted people for caring students in Nantou and timely donating devices for learning just when people’s lifestyle is dramatically changed due to the epidemic. Their act inspires more people to do good deeds. Hsu also hopes that education resources will be distributed equally, so that Nantou can become a cradle of dreams for the next generation.

522 tablets have been donated to 522 students from junior high schools in Nantou County, of which 430 tablets are donated by Chairman Yang Chien-Yi of San-Yi Development Co., Ltd. Appropriate device for learning is important for improving the quality of education in Nantou County, especially in a time when disadvantaged students are affected by class suspension due to the pandemic, and when it’s still unclear about the way of teaching in the future.
