More than 700 people flocked to Golden Dragon Mountain at Yuci to plant trees for the earth’s well-being

  On March 7, Nantou County Government and the Forestry District Office collaborated to sponsor the “2015 Tree Planting and Hiking” at Golden Mountain, Yuci Township, attracting 700 people. Guided by their parents, many children planted the seedlings in a joyous mood. Magistrate Lin Ming-chen and the guests gave these young people thumbs up, encouraging them to plant more trees for the well-being of the earth.

  During the activity, Magistrate Lin awarded the people that contributed significantly to planting the forest and the communities with good performance in planting trees in 2014. Among the award winners, Mr. Lin Kun-chan and Chang Hou-yueh planted trees by themselves. On the deserted land, 1 hectare, left by his ancestor, Mr. Lin had planted trees there for more than 10 years. Now, there are about 2000 trees on it. As to Mr. Chang, he had planted trees on his land, 0.7 hectare, for more than 10 years. With his careful attention, the deserted land has turned into green space.

  Magistrate Lin expressed that planting trees was the best way to conserve the land. He expected people could come to join them plant trees, take a tour around Golden Dragon Mountain, and watch the magnificent sunrise there. Hiking along the trails, visitors could enjoy all the trees. Welcome to visit Nantou.

  Chang Tai, the Director of Nantou Forestry District Office, expressed that people provided 757 seedlings for this event. Most of them were landscape plants, including Tabebuia rosea, Podocarpus macrophyllus, and Osmanthus fragrans, for the scenery and sightseeing of Golden Dragon Mountain. There was 0.15 hectare of land for tree planting. In addition, Magistrate Lin also presented the participants 1500 seedlings, including Taiwan cherry, Osmanthus fragrans, Podocarpus macrophyllus, Aglaia odorata, Murraya paniculata, and more, which were to be taken home.

  During the activity, there were shows performed by indigenous people and elderly people. In addition, there was game show with the Q&A related to the affairs County Government. Good prices were given away to the winners. At site, there were booths showing the government campaigns. It was vivid and happy. Deputy Magistrate Chen Cheng-sheng, Secretary General Fang Hsin-hsiung, Legislator Lin Fang-yu, Township Mayor Chen Chin-lun of Yuci, Town Mayor Chen Chi-heng of Chi Chi, and more also attended the activity. They announced their determinations to conserve the soil and protect the environment. Deputy Magistrate Chen pointed out that, up to the time of interview, the County Government had already planted trees on 1,300 hectares of lands. In the future, they would continue to work on it.
