Vice President Wu and Magistrate Lin attended the opening ceremony of the 2015 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival at Puli. They announced the commencement of the festivals by hitting gongs together

  The Hakka Affairs Council of the Executive Yuan invited 14 counties and cities to sponsor 2015 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival. The Opening Ceremony was held on April 11 at Newer Art Park, Puli. Vice-President Wu Den-yih, Magistrate Lin Ming-cheng, Lawmaker Ma Wen-chun, Commissioner Liu Ching-chung of the Hakka Affairs Council, and Mayor Chou Yi-hsiung of Puli Town attended the ceremony and hit the gongs to announce the commencement of the Tung Blossom Festival.

  Vice President Wu expressed that it had been the government’s priority to promote Hakka culture. In recent years, it not only passed the Hakka Fundamental Law to promote all sorts of Hakka affairs, but also significantly increased the budget of the Hakka Affairs Council to invite 14 counties and cities to sponsor the Hakka Tung Blossom Festival. Giving Hakka people full support, it hoped to promote and preserve the excellent traditional Hakka culture.

  Magistrate Lin pointed out that Nantou was one of the counties and cities where Tung blossoms bloomed earliest in Taiwan. In addition to sponsoring the Opening Ceremony at Puli, the opening activities of the Tung Blossom Festival were also held at Nantou City, Yuci Township, Shuili Township, Zhongliao Township, Caotun Township, and Guoxin Township. He welcomed all the people in Taiwan to come and visit these places and enjoy the blooming of the Tung blossom. Visiting these tourist resorts, visitors could also treat themselves with the gourmet food there.

  In the Opening Ceremony, the sponsors announced the beginning of the ceremony with a lively and exciting parade in the carnival. In the parade, the performers of the Taiwanese Opera Performing Arts Troupe dressed in the costumes of butterflies, dragonflies, tree people, and more. Under the guidance of a huge Tung blossom, they entertained the visitors along the streets. Behind them, the students of Kuan Ming Elementary School from Hsinchu County dressed up as Tung blossoms and Taiwan barbets, and danced gracefully in the carnival, astounding the audiences.

  Both Vice-President Wu and Magistrate Lin hit the gongs together to announce the beginning of more than one thousand cultural and artistic activities in the Hakka Tung Blossom Festival held in 14 different counties and cities. To demonstrate Hakka people’s hospitality, more than one hundred featured Hakka shops in Taiwan will offer a 5% discount for two months. All are welcome to attend these activities and shop at those Hakka shops.

  In this Hakka Tung Blossom Festival, various Hakka communities from 7 towns and townships participated. In addition to the Opening Ceremony held on April 11, the subsequent activities were first held at the Newer Art Vacation Resort in Puli, including the “Paper Tung Blossom Snow – Puli,” “Art and Cultural Feasts Under Tung Blossom Trees – Young People at Nantou,” and more. As for other activities, they were held at Zhongliao on April 18; Shuili, Puli, and Yuci on April 19; Nantou City and Guoxing on April 25; and Caotun on April 26. All of the activities were diverse and exciting.
