Eating peace glutinous rice balls and watching firecrackers at the Nantou Lantern Festival (Feb. 8)PHOTO:    February 8 was the Lantern Festival. Affected by COVID-19, the Nantou Lantern Festival held a Dharma Assembly. Qingde Temple of Fo Guang Shan Monastery presented a thousand servings of glutinous rice balls to people, who lined up to receive this “peace-bringing gift,” hoping for the contagious disease to go away as soon as possible and that people will enjoy peaceful lives. Originally, a lantern puzzle evening show was scheduled to be held by Lantian College. Due to the threat of COVID-19, a Dharma Assembly was held by the monks of Fo Guang Shan Monastery instead.

    Led by Monk Hui Long of Qingde Temple, Fo Guang Shan Monastery, Magistrate Lin Ming-zhen and Deputy Mayor Chen Cheng-sheng also attend the assembly praying for the well-being of all. At the end of the dharma assembly, peace glutinous rice balls were presented to people, who queued up to eat the “peace-bringing glutinous rice balls.” It brought people more hope in the festival.

    To boost up the mood in the Nantou Lantern Festival, a drone firecracker show was added. Firecrackers were scheduled to be released at 8:45pm. In each zone of the Lantern Festival, there were more and more people. The grand fire dance show in the water dance square, drones show, fantastic water dance show, and more celebrated the festival with people. The joyful Nantou Lantern Festival invited people to visit the park, watch the glamourous lanterns and firecracker shows, and eat glutinous rice balls, sharing the electrifying festive mood.
