In accordance with the Traffic Safety Week scheduled on the third week of September by the Ministry of Transportation, County Mayor Lin Ming-zhen donated his change on the 15th to echo the “Donating spare change for Children’s Safety back home” campaign organized by the Jing Chuan Child Safety Foundation. In addition to supporting the children’s safety education charity project in action, County Mayor Lin also served as a school crossing guard and a road safety ambassador at Ping-He Elementary School in Nantou City. He accompanied children when crossing the road and reminded them of the precautions for crossing the road to strengthen the concept of traffic safety.

According to the analysis of the Ministry of Transportation, 60% of traffic accidents occurred at intersections. In the past three years, more than 20,000 children under the age of 12 have been injured or killed in traffic accidents. Crossing roads and suddenly rushing into the road are the two main causes. Jing Chuan Child Safety Foundation is committed to introducing children's traffic safety education in the campus. They have cooperated with FamilyMart convenience store to launch the “Donating spare change for Children’s Safety back home” fundraising campaign. County Mayor Lin Ming-zhen is very concerned about children's rights, so he went to the FamilyMart’s convenience store to donate spare change immediately after receiving the letter from Jing Chuan Child Safety Foundation, in the hope of raising awareness about traffic safety issues and jointly protect children’s traffic safety.

Afterwards, County Mayor Lin went to Ping-He Elementary School and put on a reflective vest and turned himself into a school crossing guard. He interacted with the lower grade students while waiting for the crossing guard team escorting children out, reminding them to look left, then right, then left again before crossing the road, be aware of the movement and speed of incoming cars, and raise their hands and cross the road quickly after ensuring that it is safe. County Mayor Lin also reminded parents who were there to pick up their children to “slow down, look and stop” at intersections. When the crossing guard team and children went outside the campus, they were all surprised to see County Mayor Lin, and said hello to him. County Mayor Lin waved his hand and reminded children to watch out for incoming cars from the left and right before crossing the road and to cross carefully. He then taught the children walking to the after-school class how to cross the road, speaking out “Look left, then right, then left again, raise your hand and walk quickly” together and accompanied children walking through the crosswalk.
