To promote tourism exchange between Taiwan and Japan and endorse visitor exchanges and cooperation among travel agents, both parties met for the “11th 2018 Taiwan/Japan Tourism Summit” in Taichung. On June 2, there was a scenic spots tour and railway forum. The participants of the summit departed from Taichung and visited the Changhua Roundhouse, the Chichi Rail, and Checheng Town. At Sun Moon Lake, a Railway Forum and an evening banquet were held. Local organizations and businesses welcomed the guests warmly.
Deputy County Magistrate Chen Cheng-shen of Nantou County expressed that in this “Capital of Tourism”, there are many natural landscapes already there, including Sun Moon Lake, Qingjing Farm, Xitou, and more. In the future, there will be many different kinds of tour packages, such as farm tours, gourmet experience, indigenous culture, special homestays, hot spring businesses and more. It will be sure to attract many visitors and explore the Japanese market further.
Deputy County Magistrate Chen said, there will be scheduled flights between Tokyo and Taichung International Airport starting June 14. More and more international airlines will have their planes “land at and take off from Taichung.” It will become an advantage for the international tourism trends. The county government and travel agents will prepare for it well. By then, international visitors will be welcome to come to Nantou.
The evening banquet was held at The Lalu Hotel. Deputy County Magistrate Chen, Director Lin Chi-ying of the Nantou Tourist Association, Director General Lee, Chi-Tien of the Taiwan Amusement Park Association will attend the feast together. They welcomed guests to arrive at the Heart of Taiwan - Nantou. During the feast, the choir of Minhe Junior High School performed a few lovely songs to allow the guests to know more about the features of the indigenous people in Nantou.
Since 2008, the Tourism Summit has been held. Each of the members take turns to sponsoring the summit. It was held in the Lin Hotel, Taichung on June 1. On June 2, the guests of both parties, with the arrangement of the sponsor, visited the scenic spots along the Taiwan railway. They arrived at Sun Moon Lake at noon. The “Railway Forum” was held by the railway operators and tourism units from both Taiwan and Japan to discuss issues of railway tourism, exchanging ideas and sharing experiences. In 2017, the number of visitors from Taiwan and Japan visiting both countries in exchange totaled 6.47 million. In addition to maintaining stable growth in the number of visitors, both parties hope to minimize the deficit in the number of visitors to achieve a win-win situation.
