The 5th Jhushan Zi Nan Temple Nantou Tour Cycling Contest was launched. 3000 cyclists raced to cycle around the towns and townships in a 99.9k race.
The 5th “Never Stop - Jhushan Zi Nan Temple Nantou Tour Cycling Challenge - 99.9K Race” was launched at dawn on June 3. At 6:00am, Deputy County Magistrate Chen Cheng-sheng presented the race at the First Parking Lot of the Fire Department by Jhushan Zi Nan Temple. As he fired the pistol, cyclists, including the Former President Ma Ying-jeou, County Magistrate Lin Ming-chen, and councilors Tsai Yi-chu and Tzeng Chen-yan took the lead, and 3,000 cyclists dashed from the starting point in this cycling challenge.
County Magistrate Lin said that the county government has endeavored to promote cycling, regional leisure activities, and tourism side by side. It has sponsored the Nantou stop for Tour de Taiwan for 3 years in a row. In addition, the Sun Moon Lake Bike Trail was ranked as one of the 10 Best Cycling Routes around the world by CNN. It attracts many cycling lovers to travel around Nantou on their bikes. It will also promote tourism. This activity is a Tour de Nantou with the major site of local folklore appeal - Zi Nan Temple. In Mandarin Chinese, the theme - “come cycling together” is pronounced the same as “come make good fortune together.” It symbolizes that the deity will bless all the participating cyclists. It is the major spirit and meaning of this activity.
County Magistrate Lin further expressed that in recent years, there have been a fad for cycling. Nantou has already sponsored Never Stop - Challenge the Highest Point in Taiwan and Tataka Cycling Race for 13 sessions. The major point of these two contests is to climb high mountains. Come Cycling Together - Zi Nan Temple 99.9k Challenge has been popular among cycling lovers. It is regarded as one of the three major cycling contests held regularly in Taiwan.
Former President Ma Ying-jeou advocated that cyclists should take care of each other during the race and pay attention to their own safety because safety is always the first priority. With some efforts, the first batch of cyclists sprinted and returned to the finish line around 9 AM. Chen Chun-nan of the Golden Rooster Bike Team from Sheliao won First Place with a time of 2 hours 28 minutes and 44.354 seconds. Second Place was won by Hsieh Chia-hsiu of FUJI-STEP TEAM with a time of 2 hours 28 minutes and 33.809 seconds, and Third Place was won by Hsieh Cheng-ying of FUJI-STEP TEAM with a time of 2 hours 29 minutes and 58.713 seconds. Deputy County Magistrate Chen received the cyclists at the finish line in person and presented the Cyclist Certificates to the first three athletes.
