The First in Taiwan - The Application of Hehuan Mountain Dark-sky International Park officially began
County Magistrate Lin Ming-chen; Deputy Director Chen Su-hui of the Tourism Bureau, MTOC; Director Hsiao Chun-ren of the Dongshih Forest District Office, Forest Bureau; Director Wei Chen-yu of the Qingjing Tourism Association; and Liu Chi-an of the Taipei Sky Association met in the lobby on the 1F of the County Government Building to announce that the application of Hehuan Mountain Dark-sky International Park and 2018 Nantou Starlit Sky were officially launched. County Magistrate Lin welcomes local and international visitors to Nantou to enjoy the beauty of a starlit sky, drink good tea, and eat gourmet food. He expects that with the International Dark-sky Certification, there will be stars shinning all over Nantou in the sky to transform it into a new scenic highlight.
County Magistrate Lin mentioned that Hehuan Mountain has the natural advantages of high altitude and low light pollution. Moreover, it is a scenic spot where people come here to watch stars and the moon and enjoy the scene of the Milky Way. Each year, it attracts thousands of “Stargazers” to come here and watch the stars. The county government explores new trends in tourism with its ample natural resources and plans to establish the Hehuan Mountain International Dark-sky Park at Yeufeng Service Station, Qingjing, Renai Township. County Magistrate Lin said that Nantou County Government, Taroko International Park Administration, and Dongshih Forest District Office, Forest Bureau filed the applications to the USA together to secure the certification of the International Dark-sky Association (IDA). They plan to send the documents officially on July 25, 2018. It will take about 18 months to review the application. In the future, when the permit is granted to the application, it will not only add more value to Nantou’s tourism but also boost up more interest after the Qingjing Skywalk, re-creating the popularity of Nantou’s tourism.
Deputy Director Chen expressed that County Magistrate Lin is the promoter of Nantou’s tourism. He develops it in rather different ways. On this occasion, he explored the implications of Hehuan Mountain and developed a new tourism highlight in line with the world tourism ecology trends, energy saving and green energy to make the best use of the natural resources with the minus method. We are looking forward to it eagerly, said Deputy Director Chen. Director Wei said that there will be a live broadcast of the total lunar eclipse at Yeufeng Parking Lot on July 27. On August 11, there will be an opening ceremony for the Galaxy Season (Galaxy Season activities will begin on August 1 and ends on November 31). Together with the Starlight Fair at Qingjing, it will be a great starlight feast. All are welcome to come and enjoy it.
County Magistrate Lin and the guests would like to welcome all to receive the coming of Nantou Starlight Season. It will announce the five major starlit sky zones in the county: Sun-Link-Sea Forest Recreation Area, Qingjing, Xitou, Sun Moon Lake, and Houtanjing Star Watching Zone. Together with the natural advantages of its geographical location, environmental and ecological preservation efforts, and diverse cultures, it is very pleased announce the beginning of a series of exciting new activities.
