    On the 27th, 2019 Nantou International Sand Sculpture Art and Culture Park had its exhibition items changed together with the holding of the opening ceremony. Hosted by County Magistrate Lin Ming-chen, he invited folks to spend the 9-day vacation on a spring trip in Nantou with their families. It is nice to spend a New Year holiday here watching sand sculptures and lanterns, and tasing nice food.

    The changing exhibition and opening ceremony of the 2019 Nantou International Sand Sculpture Art and Culture Park was held in the morning of the 27th in the square of the entrance. Councilor Yu Hsiu-ying, Tseng Chen-yen, Chang Chia-che, Mayor Song Huai-lin of Nantou City, Chair Chang Hui-ching and representatives from the Nantou City Council attended the ceremony. County Magistrate Lin invited guests to announce the commencement of the event and present the sand sculpture award of the top 3 winners. Later, the volunteer tour guide introduced the magnificent sand sculptures. Visitors enjoyed themselves in the visual paradise of sunlight and golden sand sculptures.

    County Magistrate Lin Ming-chen said to receive the massive visitors in the Chinese New Year of 2019, Nantou International Sand Sculpture Art and Culture Park had its exhibition items changed completely with new ones themed “Mythological Sand Castle – Dream Time and Space.” With a series of plots, it constructed 7 theme zones and 80 feature sand sculptures. It is the largest scale over the past years. This year is the first year with a giant interactive maze in the exhibition area and the tallest major sculpture over six meters. Besides new designs in the sand sculptures; 4D elements are also integrated in the exhibition. With the water spray experience and musical accompaniment along the changing and scenes, the exhibition has never been livelier and more interesting. During the Nantou Lateran Festival, a splendid light show and light sculpture animation will be added. With the dialog between sand and light, it will bring unprecedented sensual pleasure to visitors, changing people’s impression of sand sculptures totally.

    County Magistrate Lin expressed that Nantou sand sculpture art originated when he was still a legislator. He endeavored to hold a sand sculpture cultural season at the highland beach at Maoluo River. It started the trend of holding sand sculptures in Taiwan. With the endeavor of Nantou County Government, it has been successful in building the Nantou International Sand Sculpture Art and Culture Park. This year is the third year of the only sand sculpture exhibition created with rive sand in Taiwan. As the sand along Maoluo River is stickier than sea sand, it is easier to make more stereoscopic sand sculptures. The works are always stunning.

    The Cultural Affairs Bureau expressed that this year it has attempted to present dynamic effects with static sand sculptures. In addition to dramatic designs to allow visitors to experience adventures in person, there are also environmental and ecological issues. For example, the high-tech sand sculpture “Moses divides the Red Sea.” When people get close to it, a water spray will spurt out. It allows folks to feel the sea water waving in front through interactions. Moreover, using LED inlaid in the sand sculpture to make the works livelier and more real. In the park, there are recreation zones for parents and children so that adults can take a rest at one side when their children are playing with sand in the sand pit. During Nantou Lantern Festival, the park will extend its visiting hours to 10:00pm in cooperation with the 2019 Nantou Lantern Festival.
