Magistrate Lin Expresses Consolation Onsite for Victims of the Massive Fire of Third Market in Puli
At about 14:00 on June 9, a fire broke out suddenly at the Third Market in Puli Township. The fire ran out of control shortly as there were many restaurants and fashion and quilt shops in the market.

The Fire Department mobilized five local fire brigades to extinguish the fire, which burned down the entire vending area of over 990m2 (over 300 tsubo). More than 80 stalls were burned down; the stock, property and equipment of vendors turned into ashes; and the entire scene was charred black.

On June 10 morning, fire investigators and forensic engineers began the investigation onsite. At the same time, Magistrate Ming-chen Lin visited the scene in the company of Director General Cheng-wei Li of the Department of Economic Affairs to affirm the fire department’s efforts and express consolation for the victims. Other government members at the scene included Mayor Chih-cheng Liao of Puli Township and county councilors Fang-yu Lin, Shih-fang Huang, and Tsai-yun Wang.

According to Magistrate Lin, over 80 vendors were affected by the fire. As the livelihood matters and life must go on, the county government will request the township office to submit a market reconstruction proposal and give its biggest support. As the market is a county government property, it is necessary to finish the formalities quickly, the sooner the better.
