The Cross-Lake Swimming – Competition Team and Challenge Team races were both 3km long, where the Competition Team contestants all strived to give their best performances; they all finished the race within half an hour to one hour. On the other hand, the Challenge Team aimed to challenge their own records. The swimmer who reached the finish line first was Ross Christopher Jac with a time of merely 42 minutes and 26 seconds, which was an outstanding performance that could not be overlooked when compared with the Competition Team’s performances. Also, for the first time, this year’s Championship awarded medals to the first 200 contestants from the Challenge Team who finished the competition within an hour. We are looking forward to attracting more swimmers to sign up and take on the challenge next year.
Deputy Magistrate Chen pointed out that the 10,000-people cross-lake swimming events officially began at the Open Water Swimming Championship. The swimming population has been growing every year and the number of contestants participating in open water races has also grown over the years. From this event’s competition results, a total of 8 men and 5 women were selected to join the National Team. We are hoping that through the trainings offered by the Chinese Taipei Swimming Association, the swimmers’ capabilities will be enhanced, so that they will win more honors for Taiwan and also increase Nantou’s global visibility.
