Taiwan holds the FINA Marathon Swim Marathon World Series for the first time. 10km challenge at Sun Moon Lake
Co-sponsored by the Nantou County Government, Chinese Taipei Swimming Association (CTSA), and Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA), “FINA Marathon Swim Marathon World Series – Nantou 2019” was grandly held at 7:00am on the 7th at Ita Thao Sun Moon Lake Pier.
There were 21 male and 22 female athletes coming from 11 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Cossack, Singapore, and Taiwan, participating in the contest. They competed for annual scores and the grand prize money of US$30,000. The champion could win 800 points of scores and the prize of US$3,500. The Taiwanese swimmer Zhou Cheng-qi could also win 350 points of scores and US$650 of prize money.
Deputy Mayor Chen Cheng-zheng emphasized that Nantou County Government began to secure the opportunity of sponsoring the marathon four years ago, which is held in 9 open waters around the world. With the endeavor of CTSA, a trial marathon was held last year, this year, Nantou, Taiwan was successful in obtaining the rights to sponsor the marathon at Sun Moon Lake, becoming the 8th stop of the “FINA Marathon Swim Marathon World Series” Starting from the next year, it will be held at Sun Moon Lake for at least three more years.
