The first digital library in the indigenous country in Taiwan is now open, marking a new chapter in reading
    It is nice to have good books accompany young children as they start to learn. In collaboration with the “Reading Go – New Elementary School Students Reading Promotion Project” in the morning on the 12th, a press conference was held at the first floor of Nantou County Government building, regarding 2019 Reading Go – the launching of the Love Library, a digital library with books presented by the cooperation between the government and private sector. Hosted by Deputy Mayor Chen Zheng-sheng, President Li Wei-xiong and Vice President Wei Wen-jie of Taiwan Reading Culture Foundation, Councilors Zeng Zhen-yan, Lai Yan-xue, Zhang Jia-zhe, and 14 enterprises and book presenters, representatives from various groups attended the conference. Deputy Mayor Chen presented “Reading Go – The best gift to fresh persons – a book for each person” on behalf of the Ministry of Education to the representatives of Grade 7 and Grade 1 at Beimei Junior High School and Faxiang Elementary School. He invited the guests to announce the opening of the digital Love Library at Beimei Junior High School and Faxiang Elementary School. The ceremony was warm and intimate.

    Deputy Mayor Chen said after the 9/21 Earthquake, Taiwan Reading Culture Foundation established the first Love Library in Taiwan at Hushan Elementary School at Caotun with the help of 921 Reconstruction Foundation in 2005. For the past 13 years, the Love Library has been established in different parts of Taiwan, with more than 50 million book loaners in total. It narrows down the gap in knowledge learning between children in remote areas and cities effectively, widening their international perspectives. To cope with the change in times and promote diverse means of reading, two digital Love Libraries were opened in Beimei Junior High School and Faxiang Elementary School. Fortunately, the first digital Love Library in the indigenous country in Taiwan was opened at Faxiang Elementary School. In the future, it is hoped that more enterprises and individuals can participate in enterprise of book donations to make the contents in digital Love Libraries more complete, working together in promoting the reading and learning abilities of school children in Nantou County.
