Miss Puli Huang Guan-rong wins the first prize in the final of 2019 Beauty Queen Legs Contest, receives NT$100,000
The 2019 Beauty Queen Legs Festival – “The Beauty Queen Legs” contest was held in Puli. With severe competition, Huang Guan-rong – the 20-year old young woman from Puli exceled and won the first prize, awarded NT$100,000.
Suspended for two years, the Puli Beauty Queen Legs Contest was held again this year. With 60 participants, only 27 were left in the final, after the preliminary contest and elimination. On the 15th, the final was held at Cheng Wan Grand Hotel at Puli. The participants were nervous although they performed their best in the catwalk and talent show, competing for the first prize. All the beauties demonstrated their confidence, trying to become the endorser of water bamboo. After a series of red-hot competitions, a student at the Department of Japanese Studies, National Taichung University of Science and Technology, Huang Guan-rong from Puli won the first prize. Huang said she felt very surprised to become the beauty queen with gorgeous legs this year.
Huang Guan-rong said, originally, she joined the Beauty Queen Legs Contest to enrich her experience of everyday life. Unexpectedly, she won. Nevertheless, she was happy to become the endorser of water bamboo for her hometown. She expects to use Japanese and other languages to sell the water bamboo from Nantou to different parts of the world.
Director-General Chen Rui-qing of the Department of Agricultural, Nantou County Government said Puli produces 90% of water bamboo in Taiwan. It is a very nutritious vegetable. In this year, with the collaboration of the farmers’ associations, township offices, communities, and farmers, it integrates the development of the plantation of water bamboo to promote its quality.
