Aicun Bridge re-launched into service. Magistrate Lin is pleased to have it working again
The abutment at the left bank of Aicun Bridge, running over Nangang River in Puli, was washed downed by river water during a downpour in June two and a half years ago. Nantou County Government secured full funds from the central government in the aftermath of the disaster. Together with the extension of the embankment at the upper-stream and lower-stream at Aicun Bridge, it cost NT$ 140 million without using a penny from Nantou Government. With the effective supervision and tender of the county government, construction quality had been monitored with full capacity. With zero occupational disasters, it won the Public Construction Golden Quality Award earlier. Magistrate Lin Ming-zhen celebrated with the people in the launching ceremony on the 7th. Magistrate Lin expressed his gratitude and said that the heaven blesses good people. It has been Nantou County Government’s endeavor to work for the welfare of the county. Now, its efforts have been confirmed.
Magistrate Lin pointed out that Aicun Bridge was rebuilt after the disaster successfully. It was much indebted to the efforts of the former Premier Lin Chuan of the Legislative Yuan. Magistrate Lin thanked him for inspecting the disaster-stricken region immediately and approved the funds for the aftermath of the disaster. Magistrate Lin would like to express his gratitude to Legislator Ma Wen-chun who had supported Nantou fully and secured the funds from the central government.
In the construction project, the embankment is about 170m long, and the bridge is about 234m long. As the foundation span of the bridge was more than 50m, it belonged to a Class D dangerous construction site. During the construction, the Central Construction Safety and Health Center, Construction Safety and Health Administration, Ministry of Labor, sent personnel to inspect the public construction safety and health conditions of the site in collaboration with the autonomous management staffs regularly. No major fault was found.
