Magistrate Lin Shows Care to the Underprivileged Minority Before Chinese New Year (January 15)
With the coming Chinese New Year holidays, on the 15th, Magistrate Lin Ming-zhen visited and showed care to the underprivileged people living in the three social welfare organizations. He brought them gifts, including consolation money, thermal clothes, pork jerky gift boxes, etc. Magistrate Lin recognized the consideration and contribution of the county government-commissioned welfare organizations in taking care of the underprivileged people, including those living alone, low-income people, people with physical and mental disabilities. Besides, he emphasized that the county government will absolutely fulfill the practice of Long-Term Care Policy 2.0 Edition and uphold the determination and action of improving the health care for the underprivileged people.
Magistrate Lin indicated that there is a total of 46 social welfare organizations commissioned by the county government and taking charge of housing low-income households, lower-middle-income households, vagrants and underprivileged children and teenagers. They provide services exclusively for the solitary elders, people with physical and mental disabilities, people with long-term illness or chronic health condition and people in need of long-term care, a total of 1,609 people. Before the Chinese New Year holidays, the county government gave NT$1,000 consolation money per person. In addition, the pork jerky gift boxes provided by the Nantou County Agricultural Products Marketing Corporation as well as thermal clothes were taken as the Chinese New Year's gifts.
Magistrate Lin said, due to the changes in the economic structure of the family, there are increasing numbers of low-income solitary elders, people with physical and mental disabilities, underprivileged single-parent households. In particular, the low-income elders and people with physical and mental disabilities usually suffer from illness, and they are often displaced, lacked family affection and care. Therefore, the government has commissioned social welfare organizations to take charge of their accommodations; it's hoped that they can get a comprehensive settlement in these organizations.
