    The Nantou Lantern Festival from January 18 to February 9 grandly kicked off at 7 pm on the 18th at the Nantou County Expo Center. Magistrate Lin Ming-zhen led the VIP guests to light up the lanterns and watch the impressive debut of the dancing water show. At the same time, there were Year of Mouse shaped-lanterns distributed on site, and people stood in a queue to receive the lanterns. Also, Lin Ming-zhen pre-announced the programs this year, including 5 Tongliang Fire Dragon Dancing Shows. The Nantou Lantern Festival’s theme of the characteristic elements, "lantern scene, flower sea, water dance, fire dragon" and it is expected to start the popular trend of lantern appreciation.

    The opening ceremony started with a dancing show, "Cheerfully Welcome the Golden Mouse" with its theme on the Chinese New Year and performed by the Siwi Dance Group. Then, Magistrate Lin hosted the lantern lighting ceremony and awarded the winners of the Main Lantern Coloring Competition. Together with the legislator Hsu Shu-hua, the mayors of town, or city, or township, directors of departments or divisions within the county government, senior executive officers, and secretaries, etc., they attended the event. There were enterprises participating which included JONSA Technologies, Co., Ltd., Kung Long Batteries Industrial Co., Ltd., Chong Tou CATV Co., Ltd., REMONDIS Taiwan Co., Ltd., MERIDA Industry Co., Ltd., VITALON Foundation; The religious organizations that sponsored the festival also took part in the occasion.

    Lin Ming-zhen said, "This year's lantern festival not only leads people to lantern appreciation but also to have joy and fun. There are various exciting activities in the surrounding areas. In the day time, visitors can visit the flower sea as well as admire color paintings with the fortune mouse theme and a themed sculpture exhibition. At night time, they can spend a good time in the romantic lantern park, musical dancing water show, romantic lover's bridge, night light flower sea, Tongliang Fire Dragon dancing show, etc. A series of extraordinary activities will surely provide a sensational feast for the eyes and ears.
