Residents Expect the Opening of Shuang Long Suspension Bridge to Spur Local Development–Magistrate Lin Respects Decisions Made by the Tribe May 19
With the epidemic ebbing, it has become a highly discussed issue on when the Shuang Long Suspension Bridge, one with great views, will be opened to the public. Seeing as there are numerous tourists visiting the place even when the suspension bridge has not been opened to the public, local residents are eager for the opening of the suspension bridge to spur tourism and local development. When the magistrate visited the place to investigate road improvement construction to the tribes on May 19, local residents proposed this issue to Magistrate Lin. Under the expectation of providing a more complete traveling service, they are willing to see the opening of Suspension Bridge. Magistrate Lin discussed this issue with the 10-man decision-making group of the tribe. They came to the consensus of respecting the decision made by the tribe. The county government will do everything to help, and both sides commonly expect Suspension Bridge to be opened as soon as possible.
Magistrate Lin stated that, due to the ebbing epidemic, Nantou is one of the best tourism destinations that has monitored the epidemic and many people are looking forward to the opening of the Suspension Bridge. As for the schedule of opening, Magistrate Lin stated that he respects the final decision made by the tribe. As for other proposals such as the performance venue for Bunun culture and related tourist service supporting measures, he will order the Indigenous Peoples Bureau and the Department of Tourism to aggressively promote them. The performance venue will be funded by the county government and implemented by the township office according to the needs of the tribe. Recently, the Department of Tourism will also discuss with the 10-man decision-making group of the tribe on further details on the opening of the suspension bridge.
Township Mayor Chuan Chih-chien also mentioned that villagers really cherish the tourism resource of Suspension Bridge and expect to make related resources such as shuttle buses, parking spaces and tourist guiding systems as comprehensive as possible. These all require the attention and assistance from the county government. As for cultural heritage, villagers expect that a performance venue on Bunun cultures can be built in accordance with the opening of Suspension Bridge. Unique Bunun cultural features such as their “Pasibutbut singing” in annual festivals can be performed, making it an important tourism resource on the 4 villages and tribes along the line of Shaunglong and Tannan in order to attract endless tourists to visit and experience them.
