“It’s Fine Eating Plums” Numerous Tourists Visited Shuili and Checheng Aug. 1
“It’s Fine Eating Plums!” Due to the ebbing of the COVID-19 pandemic, the series events of the 2020 Nantou County Mei (plum) Festival will be held at Checheng, the backyard of Shuili, on August 1. The theme of “It’s Fine Eating Plums” not only related to the current pandemic, but also attracted many visitors, and crowds of people visited Checheng during the holidays. Magistrate Lin Ming-zhen and Legislator Hsu Shu-hua promoted the plum industry with great effort, stressing how healthy the plums are, and encouraging people to eat them.
Plums are the best thirst quenching agricultural good for the burning summer days. “2020 Nantou County Mei Festival: It’s Fine Eating Plums” was held at Checheng Railway Cultural Square of Shuili on August 1. Besides stage performances, the farmers’ association also held promotion seminars on agricultural foods. The grapes and other agricultural products of Shuili were also presented in the event to attract visitors’ attention.
Magistrate Lin made an address at the event, saying that the Shuili and Xinyi have enjoyed the well-known plum industry and have produced a variety of plum products such as plum essence pills, plum essence, sour plums and other products beloved by consumers. He mentioned that the plum is a great kind of food. Given that he has been busy working, he has taken plum essence pills nearly every day, enabling him to have enough energy to work for Nantou.
Lin Ming-zhen further mentioned that besides eating plums at Shuili and Xinyi, visitors can also visit the newly opened Xinyi Shuanglong Rainbow Suspension Bridge at the mountainous area of Xinyi. Due to the ebbing pandemic and the popularity of the suspension bridge, it is the best tourist attraction to visit.
Legislator Hsu Shu-hua said that plums are one of the major industries of Nantou County. Products made out of plums are popular in the consumer market. Although the pandemic struck Taiwan since early 2020, the government still issued Triple Stimulus Vouchers and Agricultural Traveling Vouchers to spur the economy. As the origin of plums, she expected consumers to use Agricultural Traveling Vouchers when visiting Nantou to prompt local development.
