The Nantou County 2020 National Defense Mobilization and Disaster Rescue (Minan 6) Drill was held in Taiwan Times Village at Caotun Township on the afternoon of August 11. 26 drill items, including the first included air crash rescue was held accordingly. Under the full effort of more than 500 professional participants, the drill was as real as it could be. It not only fulfilled the purpose of enabling everyone to master disaster relief skills, but also served a promotional effect on the civil mobilization of disaster relief. Deputy Magistrate Chen Cheng-sheng, who attended the drill on behalf of Magistrate Lin Ming-zhen, supervised the whole drill and gave it “two thumbs up!”
The drill simulated an air crash, magnitude 7 earthquake and powerful typhoon with strong rain storm striking Nantou County one after another with the expectation of integrating all the resources and core personnel of the county’s disaster relief system. It expected to achieve the goals of being well-trained and well-prepared, while upholding the motto of “Not being worried when the enemy strikes, because I have been waiting for it prepared.” Besides Deputy Magistrate Chen, Deputy Minister Huang Chin-cheng of the Council of Agriculture, Major General Chiang Hung-da of the Executive Yuan Mobilization Council, Major General Ma Chia-lung of the Central Taiwan Comprehensive Military Council and Director General Li Chen-yang of the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau all attended to examine the progress of this drill.
The scenario of this drill was that Nantou County was struck by a typhoon, a civil airplane crashed, and a magnitude 7 earthquake all occurred successively. The southwestern air current introduced by the typhoon caused disasters such as heavy rainstorms and mudslides. During the process of this drill, Nantou County Government mobilized related units and trained in 26 different items. The helicopters of NASC not only flew 3 times, but also demonstrated their great piloting skills of staying low in the sky for disaster relief. Even the firefighting departments of Taichung, Changhua, Miaoli and Chiayi City dispatched their elite personnel to support this drill.
