    It is a blessing to be married as husband and wife. Being able to tolerate and support each other for more than 50 years is a good example for the younger generation. The County Government praised the platinum and diamond marriages, and other model couples at the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, Yuchi Township, on October 22. Magistrate Lin Ming-zhen presented the award in person. Jiji Town Mayor Chen Chi-heng who attended the Sun Moon Lake group wedding earlier this month also showed up today. Lin said in his speech, “due to the trend of low birthrate, I personally suggest that Town Mayor Chen contribute to the population of Nantou by having at least 5 children.” Chen reacted with a surprised and exaggerated fall on the spot, causing the audience to roar with laughter.

    As of this year, in Nantou County, there are 35 platinum couples who have been married for 70 years, 332 diamond couples who have been married for 60 years, and 901 golden couples who have been married for 50 years, with a total of 1,268 model couples. In addition, in order to express respect and honor to those couples, the government also asks all township offices to submit a referral list of a model of noble character, a model of meritorious service, a model of immortality praised by the neighborhood, a model of reverence for the elderly and a model of group merit...etc. A two-day of "2020 Celebration of Golden, Diamond and Platinum Marriages and Various Model Commendation Conference" was held at the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village on October 21~22. Medals and certificates were awarded.

    In the activity, the platinum couple, Lai Hung-chi and Lai Wei Hsun-feng from Shuili Township served as the representatives, accompanied by Magistrate Lin, lit candles and cut the cake on the stage. Then Lin awarded medals to all platinum and diamond couples, as well as to all outstanding models. Council Member Shih Ching-lung, Nantou City Mayor Sung Huai-lin and Caotun Town Mayor Chien Ching-hsien all came to the scene to pay their respects to those models.

    Among those being praised on October 22 were 2 platinum marriages: Lai Hung-chi and Lai Wei Hsun-feng, Fang Wen-cheng and Tien Yu-feng; and 4 diamond marriages: Li Hsiang-shan and Li Chen Jui-mei, Wu Mu-chen and Wu Tsai Su-lan, Chen Cheng-he and Chen Tsai Hsiu-chih, Li Feng and Li Liao Chin-lien.
