Three major improvement and reconstruction projects for dangerous sections of the Lixing Industry Road, including building the open-cut tunnel at 46K+300 section, rerouting and reinforcing the side slope with containers at 49K section and improving the cement concrete pavement at 52K section, is ahead of schedule. At the same time, the Nantou County Government has received nearly NT$ 120 million in subsidies approved by the Directorate General of Highways, for the improvement and reconstruction projects for the dangerous sections of Lixing Industry Road, Region-Based Road System Construction Project. Magistrate Lin Ming-chen inspected the results on-site on the 24th, with happiness written on his face.
Magistrate Lin pointed out that the 49K section of Lixing Industry Road had continued to sink severely for years. This time, the Nantou County Government has spent more than NT$ 16 million on rerouting and reinforcing the base of the side slope, as well as protecting the revetment by stacking up containers. Now, the reconstruction of the rerouted section has been completed. The base of the entire section of the road is much firmer and the slope is also more stable under the protection of the rail pile barrier. It was found that the slope protection isn’t enough with two-story containers and a third story of containers is being added. Seeing that vehicles pass through safely and smoothly, and residents from the many tribes of Lixing, Faxiang, and Tsui Wah villages have a safer way back home, Magistrate Lin feels really happy and relieved.
In addition, the improvement and reconstruction of the 52K section of Lixing Industry Road is also nearing completion and the progress of the open-cut tunnel construction at 46K+300 section is significantly ahead of the schedule by 17%, reaching 26.88% in total. Magistrate Lin pointed out that the cost of the open-cut tunnel construction at 46K + 300 section is huge, totaling more than NT$ 139 million. Since the start of construction in September this year, the project has been progressing smoothly and ahead of schedule. The county government will also supervise and ensure the quality of the construction. The project is expected to be finished ahead of schedule even more, which was originally expected to be completed in March 2022.
Magistrate Lin also listened to a briefing by the Department of Public Works. The costs of the improvement and reconstruction projects for the dangerous sections of Lixing Industry Road newly proposed by the Nantou County Government, including more than NT$ 88.88 million for road improvement and more than NT$ 29.99 million for slope management, have been included in the Region-Based Road System Construction Project under the approval of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC. The county government will implement it step by step in the next two years. It is expected that the safety and smoothness of Lixing Industry Road will be further improved. Magistrate Lin also said that the slope management operating fee of nearly NT$ 30 million is mainly used for the monitoring of slope safety and stability, which better assures road disaster prevention and early warning system.
