The Xinyi Plum Blossoms in Snow event started at Willow Plum Garden on the 10th. The main events were ‘Sweet Burden—Couple Carrying Contest’ and ‘Couples Working Together—Carrying Oak Barrel Contest.’ Nearly 80 people signed up for the game, and every contestant gave it their best efforts regardless of whether they were carrying their wives or carrying oak barrels. The scene was lively and intriguing. From December to the end of January of the following year, the plums in Xinyi Township are in full bloom. As the strong cold current hits, plums gradually blossom in various areas of Nantou County, attracting many people to go up to the mountains to enjoy the views in the morning. The county government and the Sinyi Township Farmers’ Association jointly organized the ‘Nantou Flower Carnival—Xinyi Plum Blossoms in Snow series event.’ The most eye-catching part are the carrying oak barrels and couples carrying contests. The event was hosted by Huang, Chih-Hui, Director General of Sinyi Township Farmers’ Association. Deputy County Magistrate Chen, Cheng-Sheng, Legislator Hsu, Shu-Hua, Xinyi Town Mayor Chuan, Chih-Chien, and Chen, Chih-Hsien, director of the county government’s tourism department, all attended on site to have fun with the people. Deputy County Magistrate Chen said that the county government and the Sinyi Township Farmers’ Association have cooperated in organizing the Plum Blossoms in Snow event, which has brought prosperity to the place over the past 25 years. To make the plum blossom viewing livelier and more interesting, a special event of carrying oak barrels and couples carrying contests was organized. After enjoying the flowers, people can go mountain climbing at the Shuanglong Rainbow Suspension Bridge and go to the Dong Pu Hot Spring. People from all over the country are welcome to visit Nantou to their heart’s content.
