The 2021 Nantou Lantern Festival, which was sponsored NT$ 10 million by businesses, was postponed due to the impact of the pandemic. After the large-scale installation art was adopted during the Spring Festival and opened to the public during the day, the lights were officially lighted and opened to the public at night on the evening of the 19th. With more than 10 themed lighting areas that are shining and eye-catching, including the ‘Chin-Ke-Cow (reliable)’ main light, artistic secondary light, water dance on the water and on the land, a sea of millions of lights and the waterfront landscape of flower sea, the festival is guaranteed to be fun day and night. County magistrate Lin, Ming-Chen hosted the lighting ceremony on the evening of the 19th, along with legislator Ma, Wen-Chun, county councilors Tseng, Chen-Yen and Chang Chia-Che, deputy County magistrate Chen, Cheng-Sheng, secretary general Hung, Jui-Chih, chairman of Nan Kang Industrial Zone Business Association Tung, Cheng-Tsung and chairman of Nantou County Industrial Association Shih, Ming-Fang and representatives of many businesses, kicking off the 2021 Nantou Lantern Festival. In his speech, County magistrate Lin emphasized that this year’s Nantou Lantern Festival has received sponsorship fees of over NT$ 10 million from local businesses. The county government team has already meticulously prepared a more exciting light show and a series of performances than in previous years. Unfortunately, there were some news about cluster infection in northern hospital community and the Central Epidemic Command Center ordered the suspension of large-scale events. Therefore, the Nantou Lantern Festival had to postpone the festival and cancel the performances. During the Chinese New Year, the number of tourists in Nantou County decreased by at least 3 million, and business opportunities also plummeted by NT$ 200 to 300 million. Nevertheless, pandemic prevention is the first priority. From now on, Nantou County will welcome tourists from all over the country to Nantou to enjoy the lights in the safest way. In addition, tulips at Sun-Link-Sea and cherry blossom at the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village in the county are in full bloom. He hopes that tourists from all over the country will be eager to visit Nantou for a healthy spring tour. The 2021 Nantou Lantern Festival features the ‘Chin-Ke-Cow,’ the main light of the Year of the Ox, with a shape of up to 10 meters. It is designed with high-tech and futuristic elements and combined with the moving effect of projection mapping, presenting a high-standard audio-visual feast; In addition to the main light, the organizer also collaborated with a well-known local artist-Fan, Cheng-Tsung to create a secondary light on the water ‘Chu Hsin, Chu Hsin’ by using natural bamboo and rope loops in Nantou. The bamboo strips extending upwards represent the raging flames, symbolizing love burning upwards like hot flames, and the background of the secondary light features a romantic Valentine's Day with colorful dazzling lights at night. You can also enjoy the magnificent landscape of flowers and many light arts on the bridge.
