The Double Ninth Festival is near. County Magistrate Lin sends good wishes to centenarians, October 8
The Double Ninth Festival is coming. On the 8th, County Magistrate Lin Ming-Chen paid visits to some centenarians. After knowing that Lin will leave the office soon due to the expiry of his term of office, Hu Huang-Yen, an old women aged 100, asked Lin “Why not keep doing it?” Lin smiled and answered that he’s going to take care of his grandson after his retirement. Lin also wished all older adults a happy Double Ninth Festival.
To send good wishes to centenarians, accompanied by Director Lin Chih-Chung of the Social and Labor Affairs Department, County Magistrate Lin Ming-Chen paid visits to centenarians at their residence on the morning of the 8th and presented NT$ 10,000 as a financial gift to the elderly by himself before the Double Ninth Festival. In addition, golden plaques symbolizing longevity and good fortune from the Ministry of Health and Welfare were also presented. Older adults who became a centenarian this year are also given a Certificate of Seniors from the President.
According to statistics, there are 119 centenarians as of 2021, 60 of them are 100 years old and 59 of them are more than 100 years old. Among them, 40 are males and 79 are females; the number females is 1.9 times more than males. There are 37 centenarians in Nantou City, which is the highest, followed by Zhushan Township with 16 centenarians, Mingjian Township with 12 centenarians, Puli Township and Caotun Township with 9 centenarians each, Guoxing Township with 8 centenarians, Jiji Township with 7 centenarians, Yuchi Township with 6 centenarians, Lugu Township with 5 centenarians, Shuili Township with 4 centenarians, and Zhongliao Township and Xinyi Township with 3 centenarians each. County Magistrate Lin says the keys to longevity are exercising regularly, paying attention to one’s regimen and keeping a good physical and mental condition.
