The coverage rate of the COVID-19 vaccine in Nantou County has exceeded 70.1% for people who have received the 1st dose, and 31.4% for people who have received the 2nd dose to “achieve two targets!” Lin Ming-chen, the mayor of the County who was the first official that advocated for self-purchased vaccine doses due to being concerned about the County’s residents not being vaccinated, announced the aforementioned good news on November 2nd and received the 1st vaccine dose. County Mayor Lin pointed out before there was a delay in the central government’s procurement of vaccines, and when people began to panic to receive vaccination doses, he made up his mind that he wouldn’t receive any vaccine doses unless more than 70% of the County’s residents had been vaccinated. Now, not only is Nantou County the number one in coverage rate with over 70% of the residents having received the 1st dose, and 30% of the county residents having received the 2nd dose, but Nantou County has also had 128 days of having zero confirmed cases, and has been calling on the central government to supply a sufficient amount of vaccination doses, hoping that everyone can receive vaccination doses whenever the way to and achieve herd immunity. This will allow the COVID-19 Alert Level 2, which has significantly affected people’s livelihood and the economy, to be lifted under the premise of safety, as that is truly what people want.
