In order to enhance communication, the Environmental Protection Administration and the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Nantou County Government held an exchange meeting at Sun Moon Lake’s Lealea Hotel and Resorts on November 19th. In addition to County Magistrate Lin Ming-chen presiding over the meeting, director of the Environmental Protection Agency was present with supervisors from their Agency as the two institutions had a face-to-face discussion. They decided on enhancing central and local government cooperation as they work to resolve the waste and environmental issues troubling the Nantou region. County Mayor Lin Ming-chen said that the waste in Nantou County is as high as 150,000 tons, and Chang Tzu-ching, director of the Environmental Protection Administration, is concerned about Nantou’s environmental protection. After the Central and Local Governments got to sit down and discuss things, their discussions will certainly help with waste disposal as it will be packed and processed as soon as possible to make the living environment better. Legislator Hsu Shu-hua also participated in this meeting, and stated that everyone knows about Nantou County dealing with waste disposal issues. The amount of waste that is being piled up is as high as 150,000 tons and even though the County Government’s Environmental Protection Bureau has planned a Green Energy Center to resolve future waste issues, help from the Environmental Protection Administration is needed to handle the existing waste piles that need to be gradually processed. Due to the maintenance of the waste incinerators in the counties and cities, Hsu Shu-hua has stated that there aren’t any places to dispose of business waste and that is a serious issue. Industrial zone and catering businesses have all reported this issue, and she is calling for the Environmental Protection Administration to help deal with this situation.
