Affected by the pandemic, the 2021 Golden, Diamond and Platinum Wedding and the commendation ceremony for role models of elderly groups in various fields were suspended last year. Witnessed by the county magistrate Lin Ming-chen, two couples who have been married for 60 years (Tsai Wu-nan and Chen Hsiu-yun on the first day, and Cheng Jung-chi and Chengli Ching-chih on the second day), lit candles and cut a cake to present their best wishes to 1,076 couples who have been married for 50, 60 and 70 years. They have demonstrated the love and commitment to grow old together. County Magistrate Lin gave his congratulations and blessings to 29 couples who have been married for 70 years, 349 couples who have been married for 60 years and 698 couples who have been married for 50 years in 2021. Last year, as the pandemic became more severe in Taiwan and given the fact that most of the elderly hadn’t received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine, the county government decided to cancel the commendation activities in accordance with the regulations of the Central Epidemic Command Center. This year, as the pandemic is easing off and the vaccination rate among the elderly in Nantou County is higher, the county government has overcome all difficulties and held the two-day events to make up for the regrets of the elderly who couldn’t have their commemorative events. Congratulations to all couples having their platinum, diamond and golden weddings and wish that their love lasts till eternity.
