County Magistrate Lin Ming-chen has been attaching great importance to the humanities and beauty of alleys. A total of NT$ 2 million has been spent in the renovation of Dragon Spring Well, a century-old well in Nantou City, with elements such as culture, tourism and delicious food combined altogether. On the 8th, an opening ceremony of Dragon Spring Well was held joyfully under the witnesses of the public, creating a new aesthetic space of urban alleys and bringing back the vitality of the ancient laundry. County Magistrate Lin said that the natural spring water of Dragon Spring Well is abundant, which is cool normally and warm in winter. It had been a natural laundry for over a hundred year. Residents often did laundry and washed vegetables there. As time went by, however, the facilities near the well and the canopies had fallen into disrepair for a long time. The environment was a mess, the lighting at night was insufficient, and the wall of the ancient well was damaged. Considering Chang Chia-che, Tseng Chen-yen and other councilors’ suggestions, Lin has instructed the Tourism Bureau to renovate it with NT$ 2 million. Now, the landscape restoration of the laundry has been completed, including the stone paving, the renovation and beautification of the canopies, fences, well railings, troughs and the lighting equipment, and the improvement of the access road surface. In addition, to create an innovative and unique space that is artistic and aesthetic in the community, Mr. Hsieh Hung-chih, a well-known young artist in the area, was invited to paint the giant “Nantou City Beautiful Art Wall” that consists of culture, tourism, delicious food and other characteristic elements, which was completed in two months after meticulous investigations. Mr. Li Ku-mo was invited to write “Yin-Shui-Ssu-Yuan, Lung-Chuan-Fu-Ti” (Being grateful for a blessed land), and the wall is decorated with the “Fish and Dragon Lamp” designed by contemporary artist Hung Yi, giving the place a fresh look with vitality.
