The 2022 National Defense Mobilization and Disaster Prevention and Rescue Drill (Min-An No. 8) in Nantou was held on the 18th. The recent war between Russia and Ukraine has caught global attention, and it serves as a warning on the both sides of the Taiwan Strait. As a result, the county government included a simulated rescue situation in wartime in the drill for precautionary purposes. The drill was pragmatic and detailed, which was affirmed by Lin Teng-chiao, administrative deputy minister of the Ministry of Education. Lin presented the award and urged everyone to do well in drills, coordinate resources, and create effective contingency plans to minimize damage. The key planning report and the written review of the Min-An No. 8 drill was first conducted in the auditorium on the fourth floor of the Nantou Municipal Office in the morning, and a comprehensive drill was conducted in the open space next to the Nantou Motor Vehicles Station in the afternoon. The main purpose was to test the emergency response mechanism of Nantou’s Joint Response Command and Control Center, with simulated rescue situations in wartime in terms of “civil and material mobilization,” “key infrastructure maintenance,” “civil defense team utilization,” “resident evacuation,” “relief for the injured,” “maintenance of public security” and “distribution of necessities for people’s livelihood and disaster relief.” In the drill planning report, County Magistrate Lin Ming-chen said that as the tension between both sides of the Taiwan Strait continues to rise, it is necessary to ensure the mobilization of national defense. To be well prepared for the war, simulated wartime situations were included, with the aim to minimize the damage and loss if the war breaks out. Lin hopes that staff in the county government can also increase their awareness of disaster prevention, learn about contingency actions in advance, so as to jointly ensure people’s safety and properties.
