The 2022 Sun Moon Lake Open Water Swimming Championship and the SUP Competition were held under perfect weather , September 3
Despite a long shadow cast by the approaching typhoon Hinnamnor, the long-expected 2022 Sun Moon Lake Swimming Carnival was held under perfect weather with 3rd September a pleasant and sunny day. The Swimming Carnival was preceded by the 8th Sun Moon Lake Open Water Swimming Championship and the 3rd Sun Moon Lake Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Competition. 1613 contestants took on the competition over 3 waves and wonderfully wrapped up the exciting competition. The champion in the men team is Cho Cheng-Chi, the champion in the Men’s Team who is an elite swimmer chosen by Chinese Taipei Swimming Association for the International Swimming Marathon, kept up his unbeaten streak this competition by taking home the Men’s Elite championship and setting a record time of 29 minutes 29 seconds. Teng, Yu-Wen took home the Women’s championship with a race time of 31 minutes 2 seconds.
Chen Cheng-Sheng, the Deputy Magistrate of Nantou County, who acted on behalf of Nantou County Magistrate Lin Ming-Chen, opened the event and kicked off the competition. Chen also mentioned that in the wake of the unpredictable change of the pandemic, the 40th Sun Moon Lake Swimming Carnival unveiled on 4th September adopted the most stringent preventive measures. A total of 18,709 participants over 1,669 teams took part in the swimming carnival, of which included 286 foreign nationals and 180 disabled swimmers. The County Government is prepared to respond to situations arising from the typhoon under the guidance of the Central Weather Bureau.
