Nantou County Mayor led the ride in 2023 Tour de Taiwan stage 4, March 15th.
Nantou County was once again included in the Tour de Taiwan after 4 years! Under the leadership of County Mayor Hsu ShuHua who has taken office for less than 2 months, the county government team made all-out effort with the spirit of “no off-duty time” to contribute to the preparation and holding of this race, which was affirmed and praised by Dato Amarjit Singh Gill, the honorary vice president of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) and Lee KaiChih, Secretary General of the Chinese Taipei Cycling Association (CTCA). In addition, Dato Amarjit Singh Gill did not forget to mention that the county mayor Hsu is also known as "Wonder Woman" in his speech, expressing his appreciation for the efforts of the Nantou County Government. On the morning of the 15th, in addition to the performance by the Taiko Team of Pinghe Elementary School, many enthusiastic spectators crowded on both sides of the start point of the stage 4 to offer cheers and encouragement for riders. After County Mayor Hsu ShuHua, Deputy County Mayor Wang RuiDe, Secretary-general Hung JuiChih, Deputy Director-General of Sports Administration, Ministry of Education Lin CheHung and Secretary General of CTCA Lee KaiChih led the ride and honked the horns, a total of 197 top riders from 22 teams from 31 countries around the world officially set off to challenge the 2023 Tour de Taiwan stage 4 race, which covered a total distance of 165.57km around the 8 townships in Nantou County, making it the longest stage of the five. Dato Amarjit Singh Gill, the honorary vice president of ACC, and Lee KaiChih, Secretary General of CTCA, both pointed out in their opening speeches that the 4th stage Nantou County was an extremely important stage in 2023 Tour de Taiwan. Thanks to the admirable administrative efficiency of the Nantou county government to finalize and organize this major project in less than two months after County Mayor Hsu ShuHua taking office, making the Tour de Taiwan the largest and best international cycling race in Asia. Wish all the riders success in the competition, especially the Chinese Taipei team to achieve excellent results in their hometown. On the other hand, County Mayor Hsu expressed her thank for their kind affirmation of the efforts of Nantou county government team. In fact, Tour de Taiwan is the only one international road bicycle racing in Taiwan. It is Nantou’s greatest honor to hold one of the five classic races again. She memorized that when she served as Nantou City mayor, she gave Lu ShaoHsuan, who was born in Nantou and was part of Chinese Taipei team in this race, a special award for winning the national runner-up for the first time. She wished Chinese Taipei team take the blue jersey and yellow jersey in stage 4 and looked forward to letting the world see the beauty of Nantou through the international media live broadcast and publicity of this international event. After the pandemic, 2023 Tour de Taiwan was hold as the spring race of UCI Asia Tour from March 12th to 16th, where stage 4 took place on 15th. For the sports development of Nantou, County Mayor Hsu committed to holding international sports events, expecting to improve the level of sports competition in Nantou and to market the beauty of Nantou internationally and thus to attract foreign people to travel to Nantou and to create business opportunities for Nantou in leisure and sports. 2023 Tour de Taiwan, which is the only one international road bicycle racing in Taiwan, is a UCI 2.1 category race and saw the participation of Chinese Taiwan team and 19 UCI professional continental teams, including 197 top riders from 22 teams from 31 countries around the world, among which, 4 teams were from the Pro Team level. Riders competed over the classic five stages to win the yellow jersey. For the Chinese Taipei team, Feng ChunKai was the leader, and Lu ShaoHsuan was born in Nantou City, all of them had strived for good results to win glory for Taiwan and the county. 2023 Tour de Taiwan covered a total of 670.3 km around Taiwan from north to south over five stages. 4th stage was mainly mountain section with the race starting at Nantou Couty Hall, along Nantou City, Mingjian Township, Jiji Township, Shueili Township, Yuchih Township, Puli Township, Guosing Township and Caotun Township. The riders passed by the famous attractions including Green Tunnel Entrance in Jiji, Mingtan Reservoir, Shueili Snake Kiln, Puli Brewery, Taiwan Art Boulevard, and National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute. After circle one round along the Sun Moon Lake, the total distance of 165.57 km stage, which was the longest stage of five, came to the end and it was the moment of the victory at the Xiang-Shan Visitor Center.
