Enhance Typhoon Prevention Dissemination. County Mayor Hsu ShuHua Called for Raising Awareness of Disaster Prevention, July 24th
As Typhoon Doksuri approached Taiwan, the county fire department had been preparing for the storm by cooperating with 48 merchants in the county to set up "Disaster Preparedness Zone" for the public to purchase supplies. In order to raise awareness of disaster preparedness, County Mayor Hsu ShuHua went to the store on the 24th to encourage people to stock up on supplies before the typhoon, so as to avoid transportation disruptions and problems with supplies in the event of the disaster.
County Mayor Hsu went to Carrefour in Nantou City to inspect the Disaster Preparedness Zone. "July to September is the typhoon season. When the season arrives, the county government would cooperate with Carrefour to set up the Disaster Preparedness Zone. With the typhoon Doksuri is about to make landfall, in addition to the county government's emergency response measures, the public would need to raise disaster prevention awareness by purchasing supplies in the Disaster Preparedness Zone," said County Mayor Hsu.
What are the minimum supplies needed for disaster preparedness? According to County Mayor Hsu, the basic requirement is to have at least three days of reserves. In addition to drinking water and food, first aid kit, flashlights, gloves, knives, whistles, sleeping bags, emergency kits, etc., are necessary to be prepared for a disaster. In order to disseminate widely, the Fire Department dispatched volunteers to explain the importance of disaster prevention to the public in front of the "Disaster Preparedness Zone".
According to the county mayor mentioned in the county affairs meeting a few days ago, as soon as the typhoon warning is issued, all of the disaster prevention preparedness and supporting measures must be in place. The county government shall work closely with the first line township offices to do preventive work in advance. In addition, when a typhoon comes, the city street center or low-lying areas are prone to be flooded as long as the waterway is not accessible. As a result, if emergency response open contracts are available, the county government and the township offices should communicate well with cooperation partners in advance to immediately eliminated disasters such as road tree collapses, road collapses, etc. At the same time, township offices need to check the equipments such as water pumps and to decide whether to provide free sandbags to the public. The county government will fully assist whenever needed.
