The Nantou County-native players have recently put on a good show in large-scale national competitions. In order to reward outstanding players and coaches, the county government held “Commendation Tea Party for Outstanding Players and Coaches at 2024 National High School Games and 2024 National Disabled Games in Nantou” in the first floor lobby of the county government hall on the afternoon of June 24th. County Mayor Hsu ShuHua personally praised and awarded sports bonuses with a total of NT$14.172 million (NT$13.092 million for National High School Games and NT$1.08 million for National Disabled Games in Nantou) to appreciate all players and coaches for their efforts.
“Nantou is honored because of you!" County Mayor Hsu said, “Nantou County players achieved excellent results in both National High School Games and National Disabled Games in Nantou. In particular, they won a record-breaking 31 gold medals in National High School Games. In the other hand, 2024 National Disabled Games in Nantou hosted by Nantou County Government received recognitions where Nantou County-native contestants overcame physical obstacles and won 12 gold medals. Nantou County Government rewards bonuses with a total of more than NT$14 million this year to commend outstanding players and to encourage all players for future achievement.” In addition, she pointed out that the county government has increased the bonuses for players and coaches since last year, and has continued investing in software and hardware constructions, aiming to assist players to achieve their full potential and show their strength on the national and even international games to win glory for Taiwan and Nantou County. On top of that, with the excellent results ranked first in non-six capitals in National High School Games, she expected to receive more financial support from the central government to help Nantou athletes shine in the sports world.
In the 2024 National High School Games held in Taipei City, Nantou County broke last year's record of 24 gold medals and won a total of 31 golds, 13 silvers and 31 bronzes, including 7 golds, 2 silvers and 8 bronzes in karate, 9 golds, 3 silvers and 6 bronzes in wrestling, 7 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronzes in rowing, 5 golds, 3 silvers and 6 bronzes in canoeing, 1 gold and 3 bronzes in taekwondo, 2 golds and 2 bronzes in judo, 1 silver in archery, 3 bronzes in boxing and 1 bronze in track and field. The number of gold medals ranks 7th in the country (1st in non-six capitals).
In the National Disabled Games in Nantou, Nantou County broke the previous record of 8 gold medals in 2022 and won 12 golds, 16 silvers and 8 bronzes this year. Among them, the result of 11 golds in Special Olympics roller skating was particularly outstanding, which was the best achievement of Nantou County in the Games.
Chang HsiuChih, County Councilor, Wang ShuLing, Director of Department of Education, Hung MingHui, director-general of the Nantou County Sports Association, Chen ChiChao, director of the service office of Legislator Ma WenChun, and many school principals attended to recognize the players and coaches for their achievements and efforts.
