In order to improve the efficiency of garbage removal in the county and the safety of trach collectors, the county government purchased a total of 10 low-carbon garbage trucks and 4 recycling trucks with the subsidy of NT$9 million from the Ministry of Environment this year and self-raised funds of NT$39 million. The truck giving ceremony was held at the square of the Nantou County Stadium on the 26th. County Mayor Hsu Shu-Hua attended in person to hand over the trucks to 10 township offices with high priority to replace the old ones, including Renai Township, Yuchih Township, Shuili Township, and Caotun Township.

Yeh Nai-Chun, Director of Environmental Management Administration of the Ministry of Environment, County Councilors Su Yu-Cheng, Chang Hsiu-Chih, Wang Chiu-Shu, Chien Chien-Hsiang, Lin Ju-Yang, and other guests attended. In addition, Jiang Zih-Sin, head of Renai Township Office, Liou Ci-Fan, head of Yuchih Township Office, Ye Ming-Fong, head of Shuili Township Office, Jian Cing-Song, acting head of Caotun Township Office, Cai Jia-Wun, secretary general of Nantou City Office, and the cleaning squad captains of such township and city received the gift from County Mayor Hsu on behalf of each office.

Li Yi-Shu, Director-general of Environmental Protection Bureau of Nantou County, leaded County Mayor Hsu and others to the new garbage truck to explain its new features. The new electric garbage removal and transportation compression truck is low carbon, low pollution with higher security and safety. County Mayor Hsu got on the truck for a test drive and said with joy that the driving seat cushion is very comfortable with high flexibility.

County Mayor Hsu pointed out that the garbage collected from households in Nantou County is about 250 metric tons every day. The members of the cleaning squad assist residents in collecting and transporting garbage every day, rain or shine. Therefore, as the workers serve public on the front line, it is the responsibility of the county government to create a safer and more comfortable working environment and quality for them. In the future, the county government will not only keep making relevant budgets, but also strive to receive funds or subsidies from the Ministry of Environment to assist the township office in gradually replacing the garbage trucks older than 15 years, aiming at improving the quality of garbage collection and transportation services and ensuring a better working environment to increase efficiency.

According to the Environmental Protection Bureau of Nantou County, Nantou County has a vast territory. Each garbage truck has to collect and transport over 2 metric tons of garbage from households in the county every day on average. Not only general garbage, it also collects recyclable waste, almost all year round. This year, a total of NT$48 million has been budgeted for the new garbage trucks, whose features of low emissions, low energy consumption, low noise, etc. comply with modern environmental standards, contributing to reducing the exposure risk of the garbage collectors and residents to vehicle exhaust emissions. The county government will keep striving for resources to provide the cleaning squad with better working conditions and equipment. With the minimized risks, all the members are able to do their duties in a safe environment.
