The 15th annual Nantou Global Tea Expo, which opened on October 4th, concluded on the 12th. Over the course of nine days, the event attracted 1.23 million visitors, generating on-site sales of more than NT$220 million and contributing approximately NT$500 million to the surrounding economy. County Mayor Hsu Shu-Hua noted that this year’s expo saw higher attendance and stronger sales than in previous years, partly thanks to the National Day fireworks display also being held in Nantou. The event not only invigorated the local economy but also promoted the development of tea culture.

The Nantou Global Tea Expo kicked off in grand fashion on October 4th at Chung Hsing New Village. Highlights of the event included the Thousands People Tea Banquet (千人茶宴) on opening day; the One-Nantou Two-Concert Nights series featuring Classic Night (經典之夜) and Rhythmic Night (音浪之夜); the Thousands People Tea Ceremony (千人茶會); the Thousands People Brown Rice Lei Cha (千人擂茶); the spectacular National Day fireworks display on the evening of October 10th; and the Thousands People Hand-shaken Drink (千人手搖飲) on closing day. Every activity during the nine-day celebration was filled to capacity, with not a single empty seat.

County Mayor Hsu stated that this year’s Tea Expo brought significant benefits to farmers and tourism industry. The enthusiastic participation boosted business for accommodations across all townships in the county. The county government will conduct a comprehensive review after the event concludes, as large-scale events like this have proven highly beneficial to local farmers and tourism operators. She expressed hope that future editions will continue to innovate and improve upon the finer details, ensuring that residents truly feel the government’s dedication and that the Nantou Tea Expo improves every year. Since the National Day fireworks display was also held in Nantou this year, visitor numbers surpassed previous records. According to vendors, consumer spending was especially strong. The event drew over 1.2 million visitors, with on-site sales exceeding NT$200 million. County Mayor Hsu extended her heartfelt thanks to visitors from across Taiwan for supporting this tea-themed celebration with their presence and enthusiasm.

The grand finale of the Tea Expo took place at the Chung Hsing Playground with the “Thousands People Hand-shaken Drink: Shaking Up the Taste of Happiness” activity. County Mayor Hsu, joined by Deputy Speaker Chang of the Miaoli County Council and excited participants, took part in crafting hand-shaken beverages. The event concluded with a symbolic “Tea Sealing Ceremony (封茶儀式),” marking the successful close of this year’s Nantou Global Tea Expo.
