  In collaboration with the Executive Yuan, the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced the “Speeding up mobile broadband service and business development plan” to promote the construction of the 4G intelligent broadband applications cities project. Chiu Hong-sheng, the Director of Central Industry Research & Service Division, Institute of Information Industry, visited the Nantou County Government with the project promotion team on April 8 to give a presentation to Magistrate Lin about the project contents. Magistrate Lin gave full consent to the contents of the plan and commanded the Department of Planning to work on the possibilities of integrating a 4G network with local businesses to promote their development.

  Magistrate Lin pointed out that the applications of a 4G network had been extensive, benefiting local tourism, agriculture, and long-distance medical care. If these businesses had the capabilities to connect to 4G network platforms, they were likely to have more business opportunities and better chances for further development in e-commerce.

  According to this project, it would provide financial assistance to businesses to integrate with local construction. Promoting the 4G intelligent broadband applications in city projects together, it was hoped that with the promotion of the government, the leadership of businesses, and support of local communities, it would be possible to operate sustaining 4G services, achieving the threefold goals of benefiting local communities, impressing local residents, and upgrading businesses.

  The promotion team expressed that the 4G network was much faster and had higher capacities than the traditional 3G network. It was more suitable for the transmission of huge files and images. In the future, people could obtain more information of and briefings about Nantou County Government sooner and faster. For example, they could browse through the information on tourist spots, use business links, and more. According to the project, the category of leisure city should be applied by licensed 4G service providers and the applications and navigation category should be applied by non-broadband business.

  As the 4G network has the features of high speed and high capacity, it is suitable for the promotion of businesses and introduction to sightseeing spots. On the internet, people can grasp updated information immediately at different places and at different times. In addition, in the aspects of welfare policies, such as long-distance medical care and more, they can transmit the images to and from the clinics and hospitals via the internet. Therefore, they are also suitable for applying for the project to provide better and more convenient services to the people.

  Magistrate Lin gave full support to 4G applications. He pointed out that if it was possible to allow consumers learn more about farm produce and special products and tourist spots in Nantou via the internet, it would bring more trade opportunities to local businesses. Therefore, the Nantou County Government would review the scope and nature of 4G broadband network applications to examine the possibilities of using it in local businesses and social welfare services.
