National folklore entertainment gala launched in Nantou, with 1000 people from 39 communities participated for fun and joy
    Celebrated with loud applause and cheers, performance groups from 39 communities in 21 different towns and cities, with more than one thousand participants, gathered at the Nantou Agricultural, Industrial, and Trade Center to join the national community leisure activities gala. Chiang Kuo-Jen, the Deputy Director of the Department of Social Assistance and Social Work, Ministry of Health and Welfare chaired the gala. Deputy Magistrate Chen Cheng-sheng attended to express his tribute. He also watched the exciting shows performed by various communities, which added much fun and laughter to the gala.

    Deputy Director Chiang was deeply impressed by the energetic performances of the communities! He expressed that folklore activities are important cultural assets that have passed down to the coming generations through temple fairs and community activities. He also thanked the county team and the planners from Nantou City and Chiahe Community. With their endeavor, all the participants gathered to share the joy and learn from each other.

    Deputy Magistrate Chen expressed that the communities in Nantou had worked ceaselessly to make their communities better. As a result, the social development in these communities had been honored as outstanding by the Ministry of Health and Welfare for 7 times consecutively. Since 2001, there had been 4 distinguished communities, 13 excellent communities, 14 Class A communities, and 7 merited communities in Nantou, fully demonstrating their local influences.

    In the gala, there were 44 stalls rich in regional features. In addition, farm produce and special products and merchandises from community businesses were sold, including plums, sugar canes, apples, and more. On that day, about 600 people participated in the events. They claimed the lovely souvenirs with the coupons cut down from newspapers as well. All the activities were broadcasted live via the internet so that people could join the gala at home as if attending it in person.

    The Department of Social Affairs and Labor expressed that there were 18 literary shows and 21 martial art shows performed by various groups for cultural exchange. In the literary shows, Chiahe Community form Nantou County performed the first program “Snake Dance for a Peaceful Year” to announce the commencement of the gala. Then, there were the performances of Taiwanese opera, beiguan, Beijing opera, Hakka mountain songs, Chinese music, erhu and Taiko drum performances. As to the martial art shows, the martial artists from Tianzi Community, Mingjian Township performed kung-fu show to announce the beginning of the events. In addition, there were also performances of Taiwanese folklore, such as lion dance, flower drum parade, ancient wedding ceremony, police in the underworld, electric-techno neon gods, bullfight parade, song and dance parade, huge top show, and more. Even people from Matsu and Penghu came and shared the joy.
