The county government secured NT$28 million to improve the irrigation canals and farm roads at Qingliu Tribe
Qingliu Tribe at, Hu-jhu Village, Renai Township is famous for producing Kawanaka rice, which is irrigated by the water from Qingliu Canal. However, Canal 1 has been damaged several times. Especially after Typhoon Soudelor, the canal was severely damaged. The inhabitants there had longed to build a complete canal. With the county government’s effort, the Council of Indigenous Peoples subsidized NT$19.32 million. Magistrate Ling Ming-cheng went to the tribe and attended the briefing on November 16. After that, he visited the neighborhood to inspect the farm road improvement project. Local residents gave high acclaim to his contributions.
Magistrate Lin expressed that the residents have reported repeatedly to the county government, with whose endeavor, about NT$ 28 million has been raised. It will be used on upgrading related facilities in Qingliu Tribe, which is an important cultural base of Seediq tribe. Likewise, the county government has put much emphasis on its potentials for tourism. In addition to improving the roads and canals, sightseeing resources, such as Hospice Museum, will also be built in the future with an integrated development plan.
With the efforts of the county government, the Council of Indigenous Peoples subsidized NT$19.32 million. It is enough to provide the inhabitants in the tribe with irrigation water in daily life. In addition, the county government is also successful in fighting for the rebuild of the canals, with the funding of NT$1.31 million from the Council of Indigenous Peoples. With the Indigenous Peoples Features Road Project – Improvement of Qingliu Road Scheme, it raised NT$2.08 million. The county government has also enlisted NT$700 thousand for well digging projects. In addition, the county government has also proposed the Emergency Water Ducts Improvement Project in the Redistributed Area on the Agricultural Land. It is successful in raising NT$ 2.6 million and 2.42 million from the Council of Agriculture respectively for repairing 6 farm roads in among the tribe’s fields.
Accompanied by Chien Ching-sung, the Director-general of the Land Administration Department, and Chang Tzu-hsiao, Director-general of the indigenous People Department, Magistrate Lin first arrived at the Qingliu Tribe Activities Center to attend the briefing of the engineering and planning company. He exchanged ideas with the people there. Legislator Liao Wen-hsien also attended the briefing and gave a thumb up to Magistrate Lin’s emphasis on the tribe. Yang Ju-ping, the head of the Hu-jhu Village, thanked the county government for its efforts to turn their dreams into reality. The tribespeople no longer have to worry about terminated water supply of the canals when irrigation this 50-hectare field for the plantation of Kawanaka rice.
In addition to hearing the briefing and exchanging ideas with the people, Magistrate Lin also inspected the farm road and canal construction projects, accompanied by Legislator Liao. In this project, the county government has enlisted NT$5 million for the improvement of farms roads and irrigation canals. It will be very helpful to the transportation of the farm produce there. The inhabitants also expressed that they need the roads to be widened. Hearing their suggestions, Magistrate Lin appointed related units to work on the matters of financial subsidization.
