The Sun Moon Lake Highlight Project has launched,Magistrate Lin expects upgrading into electric boats
Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration sponsored the inauguration ceremony for Yidashao Pier operation platform and the joint ceremony of the launching of the electric boats on January 8. Magistrate Lin Ming-chen and Fan Chih-Ku, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, David W. J. Hsieh, director general of Taiwan's Tourism Bureau, Chang Chen-chien, director of the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration, Shih Ching-long, county councilor, Chen Chin-lung, Mayor of Yuchih Township, and other guests cut the ribbon together. Then, they boarded the electric boat and traveled around the lake to enjoy the comfort of riding in this new boat.
When Magistrate Lin was still a legislator, he began to promote upgrading all the boats to pollution free electric ones. He expressed that there are 11 electric boats sailing on Sun Moon Lake. He hopes the ship companies will collaborate with the national policy and secure financial aids to take this opportunity to change those old boats into electric ones to upgrade the quality of Sun Moon Lake tourism. In addition, the new navigating facilities on the boats will make nighttime sailing possible. He invites all the boat companies to work together with all they can.
Director Hsieh expressed that, if we want to develop the sightseeing business of Sun Moon Lake sustainably, we must develop low-carbon, green, and intelligent tourism in the future. Every year, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications invests NT$ 400 million in this sector. The scheme of financing to change electric boats is just the beginning. In the future, the entire pier will be improved and professional pier management will be introduced to make Sun Moon Lake Highlight Project into the most eye-catching brand in Taiwan’s tourism.
In this year, four new electric boats have been launched on Sun Moon Lake. To date, 11 electric boats are operating. When Magistrate Lin rode in the new boat, he requested the Ministry of Transportation and Communications to continue finance the boat companies in buying new electric boats in order to help them replace the old boats with the new ones. Collaborating with the new highlight improvement plan of the Tourism Bureau to allow Sun Moon Lake become an authentic low-carbon and green scenic spot.
In addition, i3-Travel integrated electronic tickets for intelligent highway management, electric vehicles, electric bus, electric gondola, and electric boat are available at Sun Moon Lake. Overall, it is an integrated low-carbon sightseeing merchandize. It was granted with the Gold Award at the Energy Smart Communities Initiative, APEC, being the pride of Taiwan. Deputy Minister Fan expressed that the government will continue to invest on this improvement project.
